What is meraki?

Meraki is a subscription-box service that introduces niche interests and passionate pursuits to people with developmental disabilities. Each box is inspired by a community muse — a backyard enthusiast, hobbyist, artist, entrepreneur, anyone really.

Why a box?

A box is an all-inclusive experience. Everything you need to try out something new is contained inside with invitations to link to interest-based events and likeminded communities.

Meet Jerry

Jerry is an animal lover. He’s never met a furry creature he didn’t love. He finds them relaxing — but he lives in group home, and he can’t have a dog or cat. He’s looking for other ways to relax, and take care of living things! Jerry tried the Qi Gong box, and another one on Fish Habitats, learning enough to set-up his own fish tank in his room, and find a new community of fish tank enthusiasts. Every season, Meraki releases a new set of boxes for people like Jerry to try. Check out this season’s catalogue!

The big idea

Meraki comes from a year of research and learning alongside people with developmental disabilities and the staff who support them. Lots of folks told us they needed permission and resources to try new things and go outside their comfort zones. So voila! Every box comes packed with everything you need, including permission, to explore new things. Every box also comes with a Stretch Challenge to take you to new places and spaces in the community!
